Very satisfied with this retro looking alarm clock. The light sensor adjusts the display brightness well. Clock is easy to program. The alarm is a low pitched "boooooop-booooop" rather than the high pitched "beep-beep-beep" I'm used to. If you need a foghorn to get you out of bed, turn the volume to max! Both of the alarms work independently so (for example) you can wake up to the radio with one and the buzzer with the other. By the way, the radio sounds good. I'm glad that it comes with a battery so it will keep the time during a power cut. The control buttons are easy to see but I hope the symbols don't wear off over time.

Thought a Roberts would be better.
As an fm radio it is excellent, solidly made (in China despite being "Designed & engineered in the UK") but as a bedside clock radio, in common with many others it has 2 major shortcomings:
1. Display adjusts automatically to ambient light but in complete darkness is far too bright for bedside use, lighting up the area close to where it is positioned.
2. Volume can be set in steps but the lowest 1. is barely audible and the next higher 2. is far too loud when the radio is located next to one's head at night.
Does anyone test these radios in the conditions and locations they are desined for?
A bedside clock radio should not be a bedside light.

Good value for money
We have purchased many Roberts radios over the years. This latest Ortus is just right for the bedroom. The sound quality and ease of use are very good and the clock light at night is also very easy to read.The only downside is the poor aerial wire,which is pretty useless. Our previous Roberts radio had the same poor wire, which broke,rendering the radio unuseable. I'm sure with a bit of thought Roberts could sort a stronger,longer lasting aerial.

Old school memories.
Its a handy radio for the alarm, which is the main reason i purchased it, you have a choice between a buzzer or being woken up by the radio. Unfortunately i can only get 1 fm station it wont tune into the other fm stations. It may just be due to the area i live in.
