Stands the text of time
Had my machine for going onto five years now and still it produces brilliant coffee time and time again, needed to replace a couple of parts last year (upper burr and the shower head seal) but once done it was back to its brilliant best. Thinking now of going to their dual boiler machine.

Not happy with the pressure control on my new machine
I’ve had my second Barrister Express for a few months now but only just started to use it as I was still using my old one. I was delighted with my old machine that gave me 5 years of fantastic coffee before it started to leak internally. I’m not happy at all with the two stage pressure control on the new one as it does not control as the old one did. The second stage pressure will only rise to just below half way through the dark grey band when ideally it should be at the top.
I have not been able to do anything to improve this with changes to the grind size, quantity of grind or firmness of tamping.
I suspect that an internal relief may be limiting the pressure and it appears to be set too low.

An excellent machine, I am very pleased with the purchase. Makes very good espresso and cappuccino, flavour is maximised from the beans or pre-ground used. Milk frothing is a little tricky in small quantities (i.e. if you only want 1 cup) - if you try to froth the quantity of milk recommended for cappuccino it doesn't work, you have to use more. Can't see the point of the "Razor" - if you have tamped down to the level per the instructions, why would the Razor take off a pile of grounds? Then how do you get the pile of grounds off the basket without making a mess? So I don't use it.

I love my Barista Express, but 1 year in, something has changed and pretty much overnight. I've been methodically troubleshooting it and support are taking literally ages to actually support me (4 weeks now). I think it's the grinder and that resonates with other criticisms I've read of this machine. I used to be able to grind at a 5 and get brilliant coffee. Now I have to grind at a 7 and the difference between a level 7, 6 and 5 in terms of an extraction is 24 seconds at 7, 24 seconds at 6 and 42 seconds at 5. That's drastic. Something isn't right anymore with the grinder.
I had considered getting a Gaggia Classic and separate grinder, but the cost was a fair amount more. This is a great compromise, as long as it continues to function, which is a bit of a gamble, it seems.

Expensive purchase that lasted just over 2 years.
At first the machine seemed great - good coffee and easy to use. Then despite following all the cleaning processes frequently and taking care of the machine it stopped working. This is apparently due to the pump breaking. So that’s it, 2 years is all we got from this machine. Expensive and waste of hard earned money. Something this price should last longer than 2 years!

When it works it's a great machine.However I've had mine jus over a year and it has started to leak after.every few cups.After reading up online this seems to be a common issue.Expected more for a product that cost this much

Great coffee machine
I bought that machine a year ago and I am happy that I did. You need to practice to get good coffee but when you do it's great. Its not hard to learn. It's a small homely machine for a small number of people and has its own limits. You can't stir milk and at the same time pour coffee in a cup. Tank for water 1,7 which is not bad but not warning that water finish - the noise tells you its empty tank. It's a great machine but you must look after it and clean it everyday. Coffee tastes great, it's hot and quality. No more spending money in town for coffee. It's a great investment .The built in grinder is excellent, the control of the grind size is flawless. It's a small handy machine which I really recommend.

Seriously disappointed.
We were excited to receive our Barista Express, Unfortunately, we were never able to get a decent cup of coffee from it. There was obviously a fault, as, no matter what we tried, the machine would not extract enough coffee to make a cup.
The support from Sage was good, as far as it went - an hour long video + phone call to troubleshoot - but with no success. We were sent a couple of bags of beans to replace what we'd used to try to find the fault and because they suspected that our (less than a week from roasting) beans were stale (possible desperation?).
In the end we lost the will to continue with it and have reverted to an older, more reliable method - which produces a really good cup of coffee every time.

Great looking machine
Purchased my machine last November on recommendation from a relative and enjoyed 2 cups of great coffee each day, until the following September when pressurised water/coffee grounds bypassed the puck. Changed the gasket twice before giving up and calling Sage Services. After confirming I had carried out all relevant cleaning and descaling etc, they sent out an engineer from Coffee Classical. He immediately identified the fault which wasn't the gasket but a design fault. He had to strip down the machine to show 4 screws had come loose during use. These should have been tightened using lock seal, which Sage don't use. He used some lock seal and rebuild the machine. All well after this and producing good coffee again.

I was given this last month as a birthday present, coffee is one of my favourite drinks. After being a Nespresso customer for over 12 years, I wanted to go back to the more traditional way of making and drinking coffee and I’m glad I did. If you find the right roast and set up this machine appropriately, coffee is really good. The Barista Express has not disappointed me. Easy to set up, very easy to use and program. Being modern but with some retro features, looks really good on the kitchen work top. The only but is, it could do with an expresso cup pedestal. The expresso cup being small, sits very low and when the coffee is running splashes a bit dropping from very high into to the cup. Apart from that, it’s great.

Best espresso machine bar none!
This is the best espresso machine bar none. We originally purchased 7 years ago and it was a faithful servant until recently when it gave up the ghost. We have just replaced it with the same model and it simply makes the best espresso/cuppucino. It is not a cheap machine but you absolutely get what you pay for.

It’s a great machine and probably my best ever purchase. I would highly recommend it to anyone who’s a big coffee lover and enjoys make it themselves. Many of the coffee machines are fairly automated but I enjoy the Barista
express because you feel more involved, and it’s a more enjoyable experience.

Absolutely love this machine. Beautiful retro design, nice and compact for a home kitchen and excellent functionality. Produces consistently wonderful expressos and lattes - such that any we have in most coffee shops now taste sub-standard. Really hope Sage keep producing this particular model.

A little bit of Luxury!
Lovely looking, solid, heavy machine. The instructions are clearly written, but it does take some getting used to. I thought that it would dispense a measured dose of ground coffee but you do have to manually stop it. When you get it right the resulting coffee is absolutely fantastic.

Great value machine but not perfect
We have 4 machines across my family! Great value for the quality of coffee and overall im very happy but ours developed a glitch after 9 months that sometimes means that the machine doesn't stop pumping water through the shot, so you get an Americano when you wanted a double espresso! It's intermittent and I don't want to be without my machine so inconvenient rather than deal breaking. Also don't put the drip tray in the dishwasher as the black finish comes off.

Wonderful machine and coffee brewing experience
I have bought the barista express after doing quite a bit of research on the Internet. Before purchasing I was a bit cautious of some negative reviews on the grinding and precision. I have been using this everyday for the last 6 months and I must say that I am extremely satisfied with it. If has completely changed my coffee brewing experience. The coffee is great, and once you know how to use it is very quick. I still enjoy the process of making and choosing coffee. I truly recommend this if you are thinking about upgrading your coffee machine, great appliance.

Just what was needed!
This is the eighth of nine Sage products that we've bought. It matches all the others in terms of design, functionality and quality, so works very well indeed. We already had the Sage Precision Brewer drip coffee machine, which also works well, but is now kept for when we have guests and making multiple cups of coffee, whereas the Barista Express is used several times each day for individual cups and for that is much more convenient, as well as versatile when needed. With this many Sage devices in our home, we're obviously very satisfied with every one of them.

This was a real luxury purchase for my wife and I and we were still doubting wether we had done the right thing...and then it arrived and before even using the machine we had no doubt at all, a great purchase.
Excellent machine, well thought through design.
My only criticism is the Steam/Hot water knob would be radically different with a lever arm, and then it would be a 5 star review.
Since owning I've recommended the machine to at least 4 other who have purchased and are very happy with the machine.

Espresso like the pros
It makes first-class espresso, cappuccino, flat white - just like at the Italian restaurant. The steamer creates lovely milk foam, with the temperature indicator on the jug advising when the correct temperature has been reached. The coffee is lovely thick and creamy. Only disadvantage is that this requires a bit more work than a standard beans-to-cup machine. But the difference in taste is well worth it.

Prepare to increase your coffee intake.
I’ve only had the machine a few weeks but I’m amazed at how nice the coffee tastes. We had some older beans left over from another machine and you could taste the difference using this machine - fresh beans are even better.
The single filter basket can make it difficult to get even result, but from what I’ve read it’s the same with every machine.
The online support videos are really useful and you even get a tailored video if you buy their beans.
Build quality is excellent and it’s really easy to use, it also looks great in the kitchen.

I always wanted to buy this machine. 2 days ago I bought it. I only made 2 espresso and cappuccino and the drip tray was full is it normal?? I didn't waste a drop of water in the drip tray it all came from the machine.
