What is EN747?

EN747 is an EU regulation that sets the highest safety standards for bunk beds. It makes a number of recommendations that suppliers must follow in order to be compliant.

Do all of your bunk beds comply with EN747?

Yes! We are proud to say that all of our bunks are compliant and conform to the highest safety standards.

What are the criteria for a bunk to be EN747 compliant?

Our bunks undergo a wide range of testing to ensure they comply with EN747 and must adhere to the following recommendations.

  • Mattresses should not come above the line marked on the bunk bed.

  • Wide slats and rails are safety hazards and are not permitted.

  • Rails that come 16cm above the height of the mattress are essential to maintain safety.

  • The mattress should fit the bed perfectly.

  • The ladder should be fixed to the bed frame.

  • Slats should be no less than 7.5cm apart, and threads should be 3cm wide and 20cm apart.

The EU also recommends that children under six years of age should not sleep on the top bunk.
